Summer 2010 K-12 Teacher Workshop: Europe and the Mediterranean
28 June – 2 July, 2010
Pyle Center UW-Madison Campus, Madison WI

The Mediterranean can be viewed as a region that has traditionally both divided and joined cultures, people and societies.  This workshop will explore the history and culture of the Euro-Mediterranean region, and discuss a range of current issues (social, economic, environmental, and political) that affect this vital, transnational area.  How, for example, has Europe responded to the need and the challenges of closer cooperation and integration with Southern Mediterranean and Middle Eastern states?  And does the recent (2008) Union for the Mediterranean serve as a blueprint for resolving a wide range of cross-regional issues including security, pollution, and migration?

Participants will earn one UW-Madison graduate credit for successful completion of this course.  Tuition will be covered by a U.S. Department of Education Grant (pending final approval) and financial aid for accommodation for five nights (at the Lowell Center, UW-Madison) will be available on a limited basis.

For information about this workshop (and the resources available), or details about future K-12 events please contact Csanád Siklós at siklos@wisc.edu.  A registration form is available along with more information at the UW-Madison Center for European Studies website.
